How to change IP address?

"How do I change my IP address?" and "Can I change my IP address?" are probably the most commonly asked questions. Please attempt the following then, if that does not work, visit the Change IP Address forum.

Before trying any other methods to change your IP address, try turning off (or unplugging the power of) your Cable/DSL modem for five minutes. In many cases this will change your IP address. However, if that does not change your IP address, repeat the process for 8 hours (overnight works well) instead of 5 minutes. Hopefully this will result in an IP change.

If the above does not result in your IP address changing, please look through the below for the situation that best matches yours and attempt to change your IP address that way. Unfortunately you are not able to get your IP address to change in all cases, as it is ultimate determined by your ISP's DHCP configuration (when you've got a dynamically assigned IP address, that is.)

Windows - Computer connected directly to the modem

1. Get to a command prompt. (START, run, cmd).

2. Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).
3. Type "ipconfig /renew" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).

Windows (second option) - Computer connected directly to the modem
1. Get to a command prompt. (START, run, cmd).
2. Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes).
3. Shut down computer.
4. Turn off computer.
5. Turn off all ethernet hubs/switches.
6. Turn off cable/DSL modem.
7. Leave off overnight.
8. Turn everything back on.

Network with Router
1. Log into the router's admin console. (Often http://192.168.1.1/)
2. Release the IP address. (Method varies by router manufacturer)
3. Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem.
4. Leave off overnight.
5. Turn everything back on.

If you are using a cable/DSL modem and a router, you may wish to connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem. Please note that this could significantly impact your system security. This allows your ISP's DHCP to issue you a new (hopefully changed) IP address based of the (hardware) MAC address of your computer's ethernet card.

If all the above has not worked to change your IP address and you have a router, check and see if there is a "Clone MAC Address" option. Using it should change your IP address; however, you'll only be able to do it once (in most cases).

These will not work in all cases. If all else fails contact your internet service provider (ISP) and ask them if they are able to change your IP address or how long your connection needs to be off for your IP address to change.

If you trying to change your IP address because you are just trying to access web based forums you may wish to attempt to configure your internet browser to use a proxy server.

What is an IP address?

Every computer connected to the Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address.

IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods (also called a "dotted-quad") and look something like 127.0.0.1.

Since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers within country-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet.

Because the numbers may be tedious to deal with, an IP address may also be assigned to a Host name, which is sometimes easier to remember. Hostnames may be looked up to find IP addresses, and vice-versa.

At one time ISPs issued one IP address to each user. These are called static IP addresses. Because there is a limited number of IP addresses and with increased usage of the internet ISPs now issue IP addresses in a dynamic fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (Using DHCP). These are referred to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to host websites, mail servers, ftp servers, and DNS servers. Dynamic DNS services can be used to provide DNS records for servers running on dynamic assigned IP addresses.

In addition to users connecting to the internet, with virtual hosting, a single machine can act like multiple machines (with multiple domain names and IP addresses).

An IP address can sometimes be used to determine the user's general location.

How to say “No to All”

Just a quick tip about copying or replacing files.. Whenever you have to copy or replace something and Windows just keeps on asking if you want to replace the duplicate file or not, the dialog box has only four options available:

1-Yes
2-Yes to All
3-No
4-Cancel
So where the hell is 'No to All' gone? Microsoft doesn’t feel the need of it. So we can have an alternative here .. press shift key and then click on No. This will be equivalent to “No to All”. This will save you from getting the annoying confirmation messages time and again.

We’re going to assume you’re just looking for legally available downloads, but the truth of the matter is if someone’s posted an MP3 (copyrighted or not) to their web page, Google can find it.
But who has the time to memorize all the search modifiers like “-inurlhtmhtmlphp) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(.mp3.wma.ogg) ?” That’s where Google Hacks comes in. This handy little app will let you search for dozens of file types, song lyrics, cached pages, fonts, and other little goodies hanging out on the web.
Just download and install Google Hacks for Mac, Linux, or Windows, fire it up and enter your search term and check the boxes next to the type of search you want to perform. Your results will show up in your default web browser.

Make "My Computer" Open Faster

When you open My Computer, you get a waiting icon and takes sometime to open. This is usually the case with the machines which have low specifications (starting P4s or lower). This is because whenever you open My Computer, it searches for network folders and printers and shared files for scheduled tasks. To make explorer stop seraching for those tasks by default, there are two tweaks to be applied. Firstly Open My Computer –> Tools –> Folder Options –> View –> Uncheck “Automatically search for network files and folders”. Now Windows Explorer will not search for network files and folders by default.

Secondly, go to Run –> regedit –> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> Current Version –> Explorer –> RemoteComputer –> NameSpaceIn the Right Hand pane, find the value {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. If it exists, delete it. This is for searching for files for scheduled tasks. So it will not search for scheduled tasks once this value is deleted. These tweaks dramatically decreased the My Computer opening time on my PIII machine. Let’s see if you can feel the coolness of these tweaks :-).

Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator

on Nov 12, 2008

So many people come across a usual problem: "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator"

Here is solution from the Microsoft article about enabling the task manager:

Enabling Task Manager from Group Policy Editor
1. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “Gpedit.msc” and press on “Enter” button.
2. Navigate to “User Configuration” -> “Administrative Templates” -> “System” -> “Ctrl+Alt+Del Options”
3. In the right side of the screen verity that “Remove Task Manager”" option set to “Disable” or “Not Configured”.
4. Close “Gpedit.msc” MMC.
5. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “gpupdate /force” and press on “Enter” button.

Enabling Task Manager from Registry Editor
1. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “regedit” and press on “Enter” button.
Warning: Modifying your registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
Always backup your files before doing this registry hack.

2. Navigate to the following registry keys and verity that following settings set to default:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
“DisableCAD”=dword:00000000
3. Reboot the computer.

For your convenience, I have created a registry file. Just download, double click it will add the info to your registry. The task manager will be enabled. Post your experiences please.

Download the registry file here.download

Enabling Task Manager from the Run Menu (Simplest method):

Go to Start –> Run and copy and paste the following and press OK.

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Enable Run Command if it is missing from Start Menu

Some User have complained about the Run Command missing from Start Menu due to some virus effects. Also users when press ( Windows Key + R ) to use Run command an error message appears

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

So I have finally came up with the solution for it. I have made up two solutions, Manual and Automatic. First try Manual and if it did not work then try Automatic.

Manual Solution

Open My Computer –> C drive –> Windows –> System32 –> Locate gpedit.msc file and run it. See the figure below

While you have opened Group Policy see in the left pane and in the User Configuration Expand Administrative Templates and select Start Menu and Taskbar now in the right pane locate Remove Run Menu from Start Menu and double click it. See the figures

Select Disabled in the properties dialogue and press apply then OK

Now close all open Windows you will see the Run has been restored in Start Menu. See the figure now

Automatic Solution

Download Smart Virus Remover and then use Restore Default Windows Settings to Restore.

After this either Restart or kill explorer.exe or run it again.

This is a problem-solving book. After all, if every problem mentioned in this book were to land on a computer at one time, even I would toss the thing out the window and take up yodeling or log rolling instead. The idea here is simple:

You have a problem, and you look up the solution. You can use the index to discover where solutions to specific problems lie, or you can just browse through Part II, which covers many solutions based on the particular piece of the PC that's being troubled. Each section within a chapter mentions the problem and covers potential solutions. Sample sections include:
In the presence of unwelcome silence
Fixing missing Hibernation mode
The whatever-submenu on the Start menu is missing!
The mouse is getting s-l-o-w
Things to check when the printer isn't printing
Where did the download go?
Why doesn't it shut down?
Windows doesn't remember my password!
And many, many more. You don't have to learn anything. You don't have to complete worksheets or take quizzes. Just find your problem, look up the answer, and follow a few quick and easily explained steps, and you're back on your way with a working computer in no time.

Beginning XML, 4th Edition

Beginning XML, 4th Edition
2007 | 1255 Pages | PDF | 8.92 MB

Beginning XML provides a complete course in the Extensible Markup Language (XML) with an unusually gradual learning curve. In fact, the introduction states that the book is “for people who know that it would be a pretty good idea to learn the language, but aren’t 100 percent sure why.” Despite its recognition of the fuzziness of readers’ understanding of the technology, the book delivers a rather comprehensive study of XML.
Very little space is wasted detailing the history of XML and its relation to SGML, as is the case in many other titles. The argument for the importance of XML is made quickly, and the basics of well-formed syntax are tackled right off. One notable distinction of this book is its excellent coverage of related technologies, such as cascading style sheets (CSS) and relational databases.

In addition to discussing the crucial companion standards to the core XML language (DTDs, XSL, and XSLT), the book adds a nice perspective to the broad range of applications in which XML can play a role. One section, “Other Uses for XML,” illustrates how XML can be used to serialize object models, creating stateless objects and utilizing the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Case studies on–among other things–how XML can be used to build discussion groups, and provide B2B data transfer, round out the text. This book is perfect for Web programmers who are turning their attention to XML for the first time. It imparts a solid understanding of the XML forest and XML trees.

Topics covered:
* Well-formed XML
* Cascading style sheets (CSS)
* XSLT and Xpath
* Document Object Model (DOM)
* Simple API for XML (SAX)
* XML/database integration schemas
* Document Type Definitions (DTDs)
* Namespaces
* B2B data-transfer applications
* Discussion group applications

Sams Teach Yourself MS Win XP in 21 Days

Sams Teach Yourself MS Win XP in 21 Days
2001 | 746 Pages | PDF | 8.21 MB

These four guides approach Microsoft’s newest operating system (which may or may not be generating requests at your library) from different perspectives. TechTV focuses only on Windows XP Home Edition yet assumes some familiarity with previous Windows versions and is more appropriate for upgraders or those buying an additional PC than for first-time Windows users.

A valuable addition to XP collections, it will supplement more basic guides. On the other hand, Teach Yourself, Norton’s, and Unleashed clearly target intermediate to advanced users and include information on both XP Home and Professional editions. A self-study resource for patrons who quickly need to get up to speed with XP, Teach Yourself is a solid series addition, with helpful summaries, Q&As, quizzes, and exercises. Norton’s is a characteristically thorough reference packed with tips for power users and resources for further information. Unleashed mostly covers Windows XP Professional and features useful appendixes on related topics such as TCP/IP, but it is less clear and less detailed than Norton’s. All three will suit larger public libraries with a business and technical population. [For more reviews of XP titles, see Computer Media, LJ 11/1/01. Create scalable, reusable high-quality JavaScript applications, and libraries
2008 | 354 Pages | PDF | 3.08 MB

This book explores JavaScript for what it is: a highly expressive and flexible prototype-based object-oriented programming language. fat-client programming, desktop-like rich Internet applications, drag-and-drop maps and webmail clients, rely heavily on JavaScript to provide a highly interactive user experience. And if we never had the chance to properly explore JavaScript before, now is the time to sit down and (re-)learn it.

This book doesn’t assume any prior knowledge of JavaScript and works from the ground up to give you a thorough understanding of the language.

GameJackal Pro 3.0.1.6

GameJackal Pro 3.0.1.6
Size: 3.38 MB

M u l t i MediaGame Jackal Pro is the ultimate “must have” killer app for the PC gamer! If you, like most gamers, find it annoying looking for and inserting the CD-ROM for your favorite game each time you play it, then Game Jackal Pro is for you.

Features:
Keeping your gaming investment safe: One major concern gamers have is the CD’s life span. The CD-ROM for a popular game may be inserted and removed many hundreds of times, this of course leads to the inevitable “Unable to read” error and ultimately a trip to the trash.
Unleash your games and go gaming “cd free” in seconds: Using Game Jackal Pro eliminates the need to insert the CD-ROM before playing your favorite title, therefore allowing you to fire up your favorite game in seconds.
Easy to use: Game Jackal Provides the user with a powerful and easy to use interface to go gaming “cd free”. It does this without modifying any of your game’s files or installing any virtual drives on your system. Simply select the game you want to play from the Game Jackal Pro interface, or create a desktop shortcut for even faster access.
Image mode: Image mode adds support for games that need to stream data directly from the CD or DVD during game play.
Keep young eyes from playing games that may be not right for them: Game Jackal Pro comes complete with a feature called Guardian Control, this feature allows restrictions to be placed on game profiles.
Young gamers can make short work of a game CD: Being able to pack away the game CD has proven to be extremely popular with parents of young gamers, where a game can be destroyed in weeks!
There’s no other product like it: The simple fact is that Game Jackal Pro stands alone. There’s no other product on the market that delivers the flexibility and functionality that Game Jackal Provides.
Game Jackal Pro contains a very unique and powerful feature called Guardian Control, this allows a game profile to be password protected thereby ensuring that only specific users (i.e. those knowing the password) can play the game. And because your CD-ROM’s are now put away for safe keeping, there’s no fear of accidentally leaving a disc in the drive for a young gamer to find.
So now that we have limited what a young gamer can play, wouldn’t it be great if we could limit when games could be played? Well once again Game Jackal Pro provides a way… Guardian Control also allows rules to be created that detail when and how long games can be played. These rules can be as simple as defining a time (i.e. between 6:30PM and 8:30PM) during the week days in which games can be played to complex rules that involve many periods in which a young person can go gaming.

What’s more, even when you do succeed in shedding weight with these approaches, all too often the weight comes right back.

The Inside Out Diet is different. It helps you lose weight while feeling terrific from head to toe. More than a natural diet, more than a detox program, it puts you on a holistic path toward a healthier, more energetic lifestyle. PHP Object-Oriented Solutions

PHP Object-Oriented Solutions
August 2008 | 395 Pages | PDF | 4.64 MB

If you develop in PHP, but haven’t yet got your feet wet with OOP, this is the book for you. No previous knowledge of OOP is necessary: Chapter 1 covers the basic theory and explains how OOP fits into PHP; Chapter 2 then goes into the mechanics of writing objectoriented code in PHP. The remaining seven chapters put all the theory into practice, showing you how to create and use your own classes and objects, as well as covering object-oriented features that have been built into core PHP since version 5.

You don’t need to be a PHP expert to follow this book, but you do need to know the basics of writing your own PHP scripts. So, if you’re comfortable with concepts such as variables, loops, and arrays, and have ever created a function, you should be fine.
Throughout the book, I make extensive use of core PHP functions. In some cases, such as with the filter functions in Chapter 4, I go into considerable detail about how they work, because that knowledge is essential to understanding the chapter. Most of the time, though, I explain what the function is for and why I’m using it. If you want a more indepth explanation, I expect you to look it up for yourself in the PHP online documentation
at http://docs.php.net/manual/en/.
The book aims to be a gentle introduction to OOP in PHP, but it moves at a fairly fast pace. The code involved isn’t particularly difficult, but it might take a little more time for some of the concepts to sink in. The best way to achieve this is to roll up your sleeves and start coding.
